Fabric decoration in gold, symbol of the whole exhibitionPeru, Huari Culture, Middle Horizon, V-X centuries A.D. Crafted by embossing, beating and perforation. 16x9 cm Collection No. 10. The figure, in a praying position, was originally applied to a fabric as an ornament. It shows a seated person, with conspicuous earrings and a headpiece. The exhibit was completed by applying ten small gold disks. Owing to the position of the legs and the prominent belly it was probably a symbol of fertility and regeneration. |
