The exhibition

fotoa1

A display of 57 exhibits coming predominantly from a private collection, officially in Italy, leads the visitor through a chronological cultural path into the world of the pre-Columbian expression of Peru.
The exhibition deals with only a few important examples of the technological capability and the delicacy of the relationship with the nature of the ancient Peruvian man, which however highlights the cultural level reached since the first millennium B.C.
The materials presented at the exhibition are composed principally of fabrics and ceramics, along with some valuable gold, silver and copper exhibits.

Fabric decoration in gold, symbol of the whole exhibition

Peru, Huari Culture, Middle Horizon, V-X centuries A.D. Crafted by embossing, beating and perforation. 16x9 cm Collection No. 10.

The figure, in a praying position, was originally applied to a fabric as an ornament. It shows a seated person, with conspicuous earrings and a headpiece. The exhibit was completed by applying ten small gold disks. Owing to the position of the legs and the prominent belly it was probably a symbol of fertility and regeneration.
